Congratulations to Kamrul Ahsan (2019), Mehdi BenatAllah (2020), Maheer Hassan (2020) and Umor Alam (2020) for achieving outstanding GCSE and A-levels results and consequently securing places at Oxford and Cambridge University.

Both Maheer Hassan and Mehdi BenatAllah have also completed their Hifz memorisation whilst studying at Jamiatul Ummah School. Be proud of yourselves as we are very proud of you.

Kamrul Ahsan

Not too long ago, I remember stepping out the doors of Jamiatul Ummah on the final day of school, particularly uncertain of what the future may hold. Only now do I understand the way in which this institution would serve as a strong and guiding influence in the years to come.

Although I spent much of my time dozing through classes and drawing lines in the carpet during assembly, I had always valued the naseeha and advice given to me by my teachers. This is perhaps the greatest benefit of studying in an environment where your teachers are both knowledgeable in their subject as well as the deen. Never have I known such dedicated teachers who deserve the greatest respect for the immense sacrifices they make for their students. Having this sort of guidance during my formative years provided me with a set of unwavering Islamic principles that continue to serve as a foundation in all my endeavours.

Starting the morning with recitation of the Quran and observing salah in between classes taught me a valuable precedent for how I should structure my daily life after JU, inspiring a level of discipline that I see transfer over to my work and studies. I value the opportunity I had to create life-long friendships that were based on deen, since these are the same friends that correct me in my mistakes and encourage me towards good, and ultimately success.

It's unfortunate that it often takes one to leave the school to understand the benefits they derived from such an environment. These factors were the cornerstone of my development and defines the person I am today. If I was to give any advice, it would be to stop wasting time and start progressing towards a goal. Whether this is for your hifz or to achieve better grades, the most common regret I hear and personally share is ‘I wish I utilised my time during secondary’. Time is an amanah, and to waste it is to displease Allah. I believe this shift in perspective enables us to understand the true reward of working hard, and by making such a change, I pray we’ll be able to achieve highly in both this world and more importantly the next. Ameen.

Maheer Hassan

Jamiatul Ummah has played a significant role in helping me reach the stage I am at today. As a student, I was fortunate and privileged to be surrounded by a team of extremely dedicated and helpful teachers. They went above and beyond their call of duty and readily gave up much of their own free time to help us with our studies. The teachers not only helped us with our academic studies but entrenched core Islamic Values into us which gave us the best of both our secular studies and Islamic Studies. Aside from the academic side, Jamiatul Ummah helped me develop into a confident and conscientious individual that always aspires for the very best in life. I can therefore without a doubt say that I thoroughly enjoyed and benefited from my time at Jamiatul Ummah and without the support of its teachers, I may not be where I am today.

Mehdi BenatAllah

Assalamu Alaikum. My time at JU was very memorable; the teachers were amazing and supportive, and I met some wonderful people that I’m still in contact with now, over 2 years later. My final year at JU was unfortunately cut short due to the pandemic, and therefore I didn’t sit my GCSEs, but alhamdulillah the school was extremely supportive throughout this and ensured that I carried on to a prominent sixth form, namely Brampton Manor Academy.

The jump to sixth form was incredibly noticeable, and right from the offset I was feeling quite overwhelmed. It took me a few months to adjust to the intensity of everything, but again, it was an experience I’m bound to remember forever. Brampton has given me incredible support in helping me to enter a prestigious university, support that I know other sixth forms have not even come close to matching, and I would highly recommend it to any students going to sixth form. I’m now going to the University of Cambridge to study Computer Science.

Umor Alam
