  • Humanities at Jamiatul Ummah School


    Key Stage 3 Humanities

    At Jamiatul Ummah School, our Key Stage 3 Humanities programme consists of History and Geography. During Term 1 and Term 2a, pupils study Geography, whilst during Term 2b and Term 3 pupils explore History.

    In Geography, pupils:

    • Develop their spatial awareness of countries using maps of the world. They study Africa, Russia, Asia and the Middle East, focusing on their environmental regions, including deserts, countries and major cities.
    • Study the geographical similarities, differences and links between a region in Africa and a region in Asia.
    • Study physical geography, including plate tectonics, rocks, climate change and coasts; and human geography, including population, urbanisation, international development and natural resources.
    • Explore how physical and human processes affect landscapes, environments and the climate, and how human activity relies on natural systems

     

    In History, pupils explore important historical events from 1066 to 1901. Topics include:

    • The Middle Ages
    • The Peasants Revolt
    • The Norman Conquest
    • Religion in the 1500s
    • Medieval Kings and Warfare
    • English Civil War
    • Crime and Punishment

    Key Stage 4 History

    At Key Stage 4, pupils study History using the Edexcel History specification. Pupils explore historical events through the following units:

    • Crime and Punishment
    • Cold War
    • Norman England
    • Wiemar Republic and Nazi Germany
