Learn to Memorise the Quran
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:
“The one who recites the Quran and learns it by heart, will be with the noble righteous scribes (Angels in Heaven)...” - Bukhari and Muslim
Hifz is our largest department in the school. We have over 85 pupils embarked on the noble cause of memorising the book of Allah.
Every year, approximately 10 pupils graduate as huffaz. Many then go on to lead Taraweeh prayers across London and elsewhere. Our pupils have led prayers in mosques such as Darul Ummah Masjid, Bow Central Mosque, Poplar Masjid and Brick Lane Jame Masjid.

Arabic at Jamiatul Ummah
Learn to Read, Write and Speak Arabic
Arabic is a compulsory subject at Jamiatul Ummah School. All our pupils study Arabic from Y7 - Y11. During Years 10 and 11, pupils study GCSE Arabic, which includes, Speaking, Reading and Writing.
We also offer an Arabic Speaking Club as part of extra-curricular after-school activities to support pupils with spoken Arabic.
Many of our pupils continue to study Arabic at college and university level, and even come back to teach adults at our evening school. Whilst Arabic is taught up to GCSE level, much of the content covers traditional, Quranic Arabic to complement our Islamic Studies programme.

Learn About Other Faiths
Our Key Stage 3 programme for RE covers major world religions such as Judaism, Christianity, Sikhism and Hinduism. Pupils explore different ways of expressing faith as well understanding how other belief systems impact people's lives.
This pluralistic approach to beliefs and cultures ensures our pupils are able to understand, respect and appreciate those with different faiths and none.

Explore and Evaluate Religious Beliefs
Our Key Stage 4 RE programme focuses on working towards a GCSE in Religious Studies.
Our syllabus is based on the Edexcel GCSE programme of study. Pupils explore religious beliefs and practices in depth and also critically evaluate claims as well as the impact on believers' lives.
The two religions of focused study are Islam and Christianity.
Trips and excursion to religious relics and places of worship are included as part of the study.
