Jamiatul Ummah School will close to all pupils from Monday 4 January 2020 as per Government advice. The school will move to online live learning following a full timetable. Kindly refer to letters and emails sent on Friday 1st January.

Jamiatul Ummah School will close to all pupils from Friday 20th March as per Government advice.

The decision to close the school has been approved by the Governing Body in light of the rapidly growing threat from Covid-19. The safeguarding of all our stakeholders is paramount.

The school will close from Friday 20th March till 21st April 2020. We will inform all parents if this period of closure needs to be extended.

Online Teaching and Learning

Please be assured that the school has taken steps to minimise the impact of this closure on your child's learning. The school has invested in online learning platforms that allow for remote and distant learning to continue as much as is reasonably possible. All pupils have been provided with login access to Skoolwork. Teachers will be using this platform to communicate with students and set daily work. Some work will be completed online for teachers to review, others will be completed in exercise books and collected for review once the school reopens.

A letter has been issued to all parents with contact information of all teachers. If you have any subject related enquiry please email the relevant teacher (9:00am - 4pm).

Provision for Key Worker Parents

The school will be running provision for Jamiatul Ummah pupils whose parents are key workers from Monday 23rd March to 3rd April - 8:40am - 3:40pm

The government defines key workers as:

• NHS Staff
• Social Care Workers
• Teachers
• Teaching Assistants
• Nursery Staff
• Emergency Services
• Public Transport Staff
• Local and National Government Staff
• Public Services Staff (Justic System etc)
• Food and Necessary Goods Workers (Shopkeepers etc)
• Utilities Staff
• Communication and Financial Services Staff

Pupils with any symptom of Covid-19 should not be sent to school. Families should self-isolate instead.

Any pupil already sent home by the school in the last few days due to Covid-19 symptoms, should not attend.

In addition please follow the following guidelines:

• Pupils must bring a packed lunch
• Pupils must bring in normal stationary and exercise books
• Pupils must come to school in full uniform. All normal school policies will apply.
• Where possible, pupils should avoid using public transport to come to school.

Provision may cease if school staff become ill and need to self-isolate. For further guidance, please call the school.

Jamiatul Ummah School is closely monitoring information from the Government in respect to the Coronavirus outbreak. The school is following the current official advice as communicated by the DfE:

Current advice remains in place: No school should close in response to a suspected (or confirmed) COVID-19 case unless advised to do so by Public Health England.

Jamiatul Ummah School is also exploring a range of contingency plans should the advice change. If the advice does change and contingency plans are put into force, parents will be notified by phone and or text messages. Please also visit the school’s website for regular updates. 

Coronavirus Update Information

The Government released the Coronavirus action plan on 3rd March. The document sets out what the UK as a whole has done – and plans to do – to tackle the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, based on experience dealing with other infectious diseases and our influenza pandemic preparedness work.

On March 12th the government now moved its response to the 'delay' stage. The latest advice (March 16) is that whole households should stay at home and self-isolate for 14 days if you or anyone in the household develop the following symptoms:

• A persistent cough
• A high temperature

If your child shows these symptoms, please do not send them to school. Seek medical advice by either calling NHS 111 or visiting the NHS website. Thereafter, call the school to let us know of the situation.

If you, your child, or relatives that you have been in contact with develop the Coronavirus, please infom the school immediately.

The school will continue to monitor the situation and keep parents/carers and staff up to date with any changes to the government advice.

The importance of hygiene

Personal hygiene is the most important way we can tackle COVID-19, such as washing hands more, especially when you arrive to school or work and arrive home, after blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing, before you eat or handle food. Also using the catch it, bin it, kill it strategy for those with coughs and sneezes.
